But they are still very respectful of your intelligence and are not afraid to go head-first into heavy themes. The SAC series have more time to flesh-out the themes and the world. As a fan of the series though, Id like to check it out, so Im going to give in to it. I think this might be the movie I've watched the most in my life, with over 30 viewings in total. Sounds as if no dub (not a problem for most, but I prefer dubs), no original GitS (which it sounds like both the UK and JPN release of 2.0 include - I own the very old DVD, and the special edition is 20 (the same price as the 2.0 blu)). Subsequent viewings started clearing some parts of the plot up and I started paying more attention to the philosophical themes throughout. I originally purchased the film as the trailers made it look visually stunning -which it was- and action-packed, which turned out not to be the case and I remember being very disappointed as a teen for the lack of action and for having had all major themes fly over my head. Combined with the moody and lived-in cyberpunk near-future makes for a very engaging storytelling canvas. GitS has always been my go-to example of intelligent science fiction.
